Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Albuquerque Isotopes scored seven unanswered runs to beat the Memphis Redbirds, 7-5, on Thursday night at AutoZone Park in the third game of a four-game series.
Rusty Ryal did the damage for Albuquerque for the second time in the series, this time hitting a go-ahead grand slam off reliever Ramon Delgado in the sixth inning.
Brock Peterson went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs for Memphis, marking his second multi-homer game of the season. Outfielder Justin Christian went hitless to snap his season-best 10-game hitting streak.
Peterson led off the bottom of the second with his ninth homer of the season. The blast momentarily tied the slugger with Jamie Romak for the team lead.
Memphis added another run after two batters in the fourth as Kolten Wong began with a single. Ryan Jackson would follow with an RBI double to right.
Boone Whiting pitched five scoreless before getting into trouble in the sixth, allowing a double and a pair of walks. Reliever Ramon Delgado then entered the game and served up a grand slam down the left field line for a 4-2 lead.
Peterson's second dinger brought the Redbirds within one run at 4-3, which landed on top of the TruGreen Bluff.
Chili Buss' two-run double in the top of the ninth to move the Isotopes ahead at four runs proved to be the difference.
Memphis added two late runs in the ninth, beginning on consecutive doubles from Jamie Romak and Rob Johnson. Vance Albitz then hit a pop fly to shortstop Dee Gordon, which was dropped to allow Johnson to score.
Whiting (2-1) was charged with three runs on three hits while striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings for the loss. Delgado scattered five hits for two runs while allowing all three inherited runners to score.
Jorge Rondon gave up two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Sam Freeman recorded the final two outs, but allowed two of three inherited runners to come home.
Red Patterson made a spot start for the Isotopes, giving up a pair in four innings. Geison Aguasviva (3-2) followed with two innings for the win.
The two teams will conclude their series at 7:05 pm CT on Friday night at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Richard Castillo (0-0, 1.80) will start against Albuquerque righty Blake Johnson (4-3, 3.79).
