P-Bruins Mount Late Comeback, But Fall to Wolf Pack in Overtime 4-3

Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack in overtime Wednesday night 4-3 at the XL Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Karson Kuhlman, Ryan Fitzgerald and Kyle Cumiskey while Zane McIntyre made his 10th start of the season in net.

Special teams were the story of the first period for both sides as all three goals in the frame came in that fashion. Providence opened the scoring 7:50 into play despite being short handed as Kuhlman netted his second tally of the season. The puck got by a Hartford defender at the blue line and Kuhlman beat his man up the right side for a breakaway. He went forehand-backhanded to beat Dustin Tokarski for the unassisted goal and the P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead. A former Bruin tied things up at 13:49 as Matt Beleskey took advantage of the Pack's second power play. Chris Bigras fired a slap-shot into traffic with Peter Holland and Beleskey jamming at it. The loose puck eventually found Beleskey's stick and he deposited it in for his second goal of the season.

Providence's second power play of the night came late in the opening period, and the newest P-Bruin played a part in re-taking the lead. Kyle Cumiskey, who signed with the team yesterday, ran the point on the man-advantage and fired a slap-shot with room to shoot. The shot was knocked down, but Fitzgerald was parked in front of the net and jumped on the loose puck. He put it in at 18:28 for his fourth goal of the season and Providence brought a 2-1 lead into the intermission. The score remained the same until just 1:02 was left on the clock in the second when a bad bounce led to Beleskey's second goal of the night. Ville Meskanen blasted the puck around the glass, but a bad carom led to Beleskey getting the puck with an open net. McIntyre did all he could to get back in position, but couldn't stop the Pack from tying the game 2-2 after two periods.

Shawn O'Donnell broke the tie 9:36 into the third period, taking a feed from Cole Schneider behind the net and blasting in a one-timer to make it 3-2 Hartford. Cumiskey responded for Providence less than four minutes later, scoring his first AHL goal since 2015 at 13:23 to tie the game. Again running the point on the power play, Cumiskey blasted a slap-shot by Tokarski with Jordan Szwarz screening the goaltender in front. The goal secured a point in the standings for the P-Bruins and sent the game to overtime knotted 3-3. Providence had a chance to win it on the power play early in the extra period, but couldn't get the game-winner by Tokarski. Vinni Lettieri ended the game with 1:30 left on the clock, taking the puck end-to-end for his first goal of the year. Weaving his way through defenders, he beat McIntyre high-glove side to give the Pack a 4-3 overtime win.

McIntyre stopped 18 of 21 shots while Tokarski stopped 27 of 30 shots. Providence was 2-6 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins are back in action Saturday night in Wilkes-Barre Scranton as they travel to face the Penguins on the road for the first time this season at 7:05pm.
