Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Checkers, November 21
November 21, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
The set-up
The Belleville Senators will look for a series sweep Wednesday night as they get set for another showdown with the Charlotte Checkers.
Belleville (9-9-0-0) got back to winning ways Tuesday against Charlotte as they jumped back into a playoff spot sitting in fourth place in the North Division. The Sens power play, which converted once Tuesday, remains the sixth best in the league at 22.2%.
Charlotte (13-4-1-0) still holds the best record in the AHL despite Tuesday's loss after the Senators snapped their seven-game points streak. The Checkers' 65 goals is tied for most in the league.
Roster notes
Nothing new overnight for the Senators as they get set for game two of a back-to-back. The only decision head coach Troy Mann will have to make is who starts in goal after Filip Gustavsson got the win Tuesday. Mann could also start his other rookie netminder in Jake Paterson.
Goaltenders Mike Condon and Marcus Hogberg and forward Andrew Sturtz didn't travel.
Previous history
The Sens got the season series off to a flying start Tuesday with a dominant 5-1 win behind two-goal efforts from Jack Rodewald and Rudolfs Balcers. The teams will battle again in Belleville Jan. 4-5.
Who to watch
Rodewald had two goals Tuesday to take his season total to seven, tied for the most with three other players on the Sens roster. His 14 points are the second most for Belleville.
Valentin Zykov grabbed his first goal of the season Tuesday in only his third game of the year as he has spent the majority of the 2018-19 season in the NHL with Carolina where he has three assists in 13 games.
Where to watch
Wednesday's game starts at 7:00pm and can be seen on AHLTV. Fans can also watch tonight's contest at Shoeless Joe's in Belleville.
The radio broadcast on CJBQ 800 begins at 6:50pm with Jack Miller on the call.
