Syracuse Crunch News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - After giving up the opening goal, the Syracuse Crunch scored four consecutive goals to roll past the Binghamton Devils, 4-1, tonight at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
The win extends the Crunch to a five-game winning streak and eight-game points streak and advances the team to 9-5-1-0 on the season. Syracuse now has a 3-0 lead in the 10-game series against Binghamton.
Goaltender Connor Ingram earned his fourth consecutive win with 29 saves in net for the Crunch. Mackenzie Blackwood turned aside 23-of-26 in net for the Devils. Syracuse's league-leading power play continued to produce going 2-for-5, while the penalty kill unit shut down all eight Binghamton man-advantages.
The Devils were first on the board with a shorthanded goal 3:33 into the game. After coming in on a 3-on-1 rush, Brandon Gignac sauced a centering pass for Blake Pietila. He switched to the backhand as he cut across the crease and flipped the puck over Ingram.
The Crunch put up two goals just 57 seconds apart to steal the lead in the second period. At the 9:41 mark, Cory Conacher threw a cross-slot pass for Carter Verhaeghe to send home back door from the left circle. Alex Barre-Boulet earned the secondary assist. Less than a minute later, Gabriel Dumont won the draw and sent it straight back for Boris Katchouk to net from the left point.
With 2:37 remaining in the middle frame, Syracuse went up by two during 5-on-3 play. Verhaeghe passed across the zone to Conacher at the top of the right circle. He threw a shot on goal that was tipped by Andreoff as he cut in front of the net.
Conacher hit the empty net with less than a minute left in regulation to secure the victory.
The Crunch return to the War Memorial Arena to host the Devils on Friday at 7 p.m.
