P-Bruins Fall to Wolf Pack 7-5

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack 7-5 Friday evening in front of 9,946 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Nate Thompson, Matt Lashoff, Brett Skinner and two goals from Aaron Slattengren. The 37-9-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday to face the Philadelphia Phantoms for Matt Hunwick Poster Night at 4:05 p.m. Providence is now eight points ahead of the second place Wolf Pack.

The Wolf Pack took a 1-0 lead at the 2:33 mark of the opening period. Greg Moore scored his 19th goal of the season, with Dane Byers and Pierre Parenteau recording the assists. Hartford opened up a 2-0 advantage just over a minute later at the 3:44 mark. This time Jake Taylor tallied his third goal of the season with Artem Anisimov and Alex Bourret getting the assists. Providence pulled within a goal at the 4:44 mark. The P-Bruins had a 2-on-1 opportunity. Thompson skated the puck into the zone and instead of passing it off took the shot and scored his eighth goal of the season. Matt Lashoff and Jeff Hoggan earned the assists. Providence trailed after the opening period 2-1. At the end of the period, the P-Bruins were assessed a five minute major and two minute minor leading to a seven minute Wolf Pack power play to start the second period.

In the second period, the Wolf Pack added to their lead. The Wolf Pack scored their first goal of the period at the 1:29 mark on a 5-on-3 power play. Andy Hutchinson tallied the goal with Thomas Pock and Moore grabbing the assists. At the 1:59 mark Hutchinson picked up his second goal of the game and 11th goal of the season. Anisimov and Lauri Korpikoski had the assists. Hartford scored again at the 3:12 mark. This time it was Moore with his second goal of the game and 20th on the season. Ivan Baranka and Byers recorded the assists. The Wolf Pack also added goals at the 5:06 mark from Byers, his 14th of the season, while Moore and Bourret had the assists and at the 6:21 mark from Hutchinson, his third of the game and 12th of the season, from Pock and Korpikoski. All five Wolf Pack second period goals came on the power play. Providence added a goal of its own towards the end of the second period. At the 19:00 mark, Chris Collins worked the puck around the boards to Thompson behind the next. He gave the puck to Slattengren along the left boards. Slattengren took a shot and the puck snuck between Wolf Pack net minder Al Montoya and the post, into the net.

The P-Bruins continued to narrow the gap early in the third period. Only 1:11 into the period, Slattengren tallied his second goal of the game, fourth of the season, with Martins Karsums and Matt Hendricks picking up the assists. Providence continued to battle back, scoring its fourth goal of the game at the 14:52 mark. Lashoff netted his sixth goal of the season, with Karsums and Alexandre Imbeault grabbing the assists. With the goaltender pulled and on the power play, the P-Bruins pulled within two at the 19:08 mark. Skinner scored his fourth goal of the season, from just inside the blue line with Karsums and Lashoff getting the assists. The Wolf Pack held on for a 7-5 victory.

Tuukka Rask stopped 10 of 15 shots and Jordan Sigalet stopped six of eight shots for the P-Bruins, while Montoya made 44 saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 2-for-7 on the power play.
