Adirondack Phantoms News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - The Philadelphia Phantoms again found themselves unable to dig out of an early hole, going down 2-0 to the Springfield Falcons before falling 4-2 at the MassMutual Center. The loss is Philadelphia's second straight and trims its East Division lead to five points after a win by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The Falcons jumped ahead with two first-period power-play goals. The first came with 4:05 to play in the period off the stick of Marc-Andre Pouliot. He was waiting at the back door on the right post for a crossing pass from Patrick Thorensen, who was inbound on the left wing. Pouliot knocked Thorensen's pass out of midair and past Brian Boucher for the 1-0 lead.
Springfield tallied again on the man-advantage less than two minutes later, with 2:12 to go. Rob Schremp played a puck from the left side to T.J. Kemp. He tapped it back to the top of the crease, where Thorensen was waiting to fire it home for the 2-0 advantage.
Philadelphia pulled within a goal early in the second period during a five-on-three power play. Jared Ross teed up a puck for Alexandre Picard, who blasted a slapshot from the top of the left circle past Jeff Deslauriers to make it a 2-1 game.
But the Falcons regained the two-goal cushion with another late goal. There were just 23 ticks left on the clock when Theo Peckham's shot through a screen made it through Boucher's legs for a 3-1 lead.
Philadelphia pulled back within one late in the game on another power play goal, this one by Denis Tolpeko. He snapped a puck over the shoulder of Deslauiers with 2:15 to play. But the Phantoms could not find the equalizer, and Pouliot iced the win with an empty-netter.
Boucher took the loss with 25 saves on 28 shots, while Deslauriers stopped 25 of 28 Phantoms bids in earning the win.
Game three of Philadelphia's four-game road swing is Saturday night in New Hampshire against the Manchester Monarchs. The Phantoms return to the Wachovia Spectrum on Tuesday, Feb. 12 to face the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05. Tickets are available at the Wachovia Complex box office, online at ComcastTIX.com or phantomshockey.com, or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
