Rivermen Prepare for Three in Three on the Road
Published on February 8, 2008 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen hit the road on a three game weekend road swing beginning tonight against the Quad City Flames at 7:05 pm.
With 51 games already in the books, the Rivermen will get back on the road where they are 17-4-2-1 this season, generating 37 of its 64 points away from home. Only Providence has more road wins in the AHL at 18, but the Rivermen haven't played a game away from Carver Arena since January 25 at Iowa.
"I think there's less pressure on the road," said Rivermen leading scorer Charles Linglet. "We don't worry about individual numbers or anything like that, we just go out and try to score enough goals to win. We're definitely relaxed and play our game."
If nothing else Peoria's road domination shows in the plus/minus column, where the team is plus-117 on the road and just plus-2 at home. A plus is awarded when a player is on the ice for an even strength goal for, and a minus given when on the ice for one against. Also telling is that in three fewer games on the road the Rivermen have scored 11 more goals.
Another key lies in Peoria's road goals against average, which is six-tenths of a goal lower away from home (2.34 vs. 2.94). Rivermen netminders have been able to stymie the opposition on the road and have allowed just 57 goals on 570 shots against, while at home seeing just 22 more shots but giving up a grand total of 80 goals.
"We know we need to pick up these key wins at home," said Linglet. "It's kind of backwards (from conventional sports wisdom) how we win on the road all the time and are just over .500 at home. As we rest more this month and get a chance to heal some injuries, I think we can even that out."
After tonight's game in the Quad Cities, Peoria heads to Iowa for a game against the Stars Saturday night at 7:07 pm, and finishes the trip in Milwaukee versus the Admirals on Sunday at 4 pm. The next Rivermen home game will be Nesquik 2-for-Tuesday against the Houston Aeros on February 12 at 7 pm. Bring any Nesquik UPC Proof of Purchase to the Peoria Civic Center Box Office to receive buy-one, get-one free upper bowl tickets to any Tuesday game!
