Albany Devils News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - A late power play goal by Trevor Smith led the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Lowell Devils on Friday at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The Devils were perfect on the penalty kill during the Sound Tigers' first eight man-advantages, but the ninth time proved to the charm for Bridgeport. Smith found some room between the hash marks and snapped a wrist shot inside the far post that gave his team the one goal edge and eventual win with just 1:03 left in the contest.

Barry Tallackson gave Lowell some hope when he knotted the contest at two mid-way through the final frame. Mark Fraser knocked down a Bridgeport clearing attempt at the blue line and Tallackson took it from there, sending a shot from near dot that sailed past the blocker of Mike Morrison. Petr Vrana also added an assist on Tallackson's 15th goal of the year.

Kyle Okposo had struck 51 seconds into the second period to give the Sound Tigers their first lead of the game. The rookie forward stationed himself inside the far circle, where Sean Bentivoglio fed a pass from behind the net for a one-timer that squeezed under Frank Doyle to make the score 2-1. Lowell never got the opportunity to mount much of a comeback in the middle frame, having to kill off four Bridgeport power plays including a minute-long 5-on-3 advantage.

The Devils got the all-important first goal on the road off of a face-off at 6:54 of the first period. A bouncing puck from the draw came caroming into the slot to a wide-open Pierre-Luc Leblond, who quickly threw a wrister past Morrison for his second of the season.

Bridgeport would need only 48 seconds to tie the score 1-1 as Tim Jackman centered the puck in front of the net for Steve Regier, who got three chancesto finally whack it across the goal line.

Lowell finished 0-for-4 on the power play as the winless streak stretched to eleven games.
