Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, R.I. - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Niklas Svedberg made 19 saves, while Zach Trotman scored the lone goal for the P-Bruins.

The P-Bruins came out strong early in the first period placing pressure on the Monarchs defense. Manchester goaltender Martin Jones was strong and shut down some early Providence scoring opportunities. The Monarchs answered right back as Svedberg had to make a strong save from just outside the goal crease midway through the opening frame. However, the P-Bruins work paid off late in the period when Trotman scored off a great feed by Craig Cunningham at the 15:09 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Alexander Khokhlachev had the secondary assist on Trotman's third goal of the season. Providence led 1-0 going into the first intermission.

Manchester answered back at the 2:44 mark of the second, when defensemen Vincent LoVerde shot a hard wrist shot from the blue line to even the score at one. It was LoVerde's first goal of the season while teammates A.J. Gale and Nick Shore had the assists. Both teams exchanged great scoring opportunities throughout the period. The strongest chance came when Andrew Cherniwchan had a breakaway, but missed the net high. The game went into the second intermission tied at one.

In the third period, the P-Bruins came out strong continuing to place pressure on Jones. It was Manchester though who scored at the 5:33 mark to break the tie. Zach O'Brien took a shot just below the blue line to slip it past Svedberg for his fourth goal this season. Gale and Shore were once again credited with the assists. During the final seconds of regulation the P-Bruins managed to generate some great opportunities but could not capitalize as Manchester held on for the 2-1victory.

Svedberg stopped 19 of 21 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jones made 32 saves for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins went 0-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday at 7:05pm against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a pair of thundersticks courtesy of Uncle Bob's Self Storage.
