
Bulldogs Defeat Wild 3-1

Hamilton, ON - The Iowa Wild (15-16-2-2, 34 points) were defeated by the Hamilton Bulldogs (19-15-0-4, 42 points) 3-1 in front of 3,540 fans at Copps Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. Hamilton scored once each period and goalie Dustin Tokarski (15-7-2) stopped 27 of 28 shots to lead the Bulldogs to their seventh victory in the last eight games. Forwards Gabriel Dumont and Nick Tarnasky, as well as defenseman Nathan Beaulieu scored to help the Bulldogs even the season series in the last meeting of the year between the two teams. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (6-6-1) stopped 31 of 33 in the defeat, as his club finished a six-game road trip with a 2-2-0-2 record. Wild forward Marc Hagel returned to his hometown, scoring his first career AHL goal, the team's tally. After moving above .500 on Friday night, the Wild has dropped back-to-back decisions to fall a game under .500. The Wild returns home on Wednesday night to host Toronto at 7:05 p.m., the beginning of a three-game homestand.
Hamilton pulled ahead at 18:44 of the first period, scoring the game's first goal. On the power play, Martin St. Pierre found Gabriel Dumont in the Iowa crease. He shuffled the puck to his forehand and slipped a shot past Wild goaltender Johan Gustafsson for the 1-0 lead. Nathan Beaulieu added an assist on Dumont's eighth goal of the year.
Iowa countered with a power-play goal, tying the game 1-1 at 6:13 of the second period, Center Warren Peters, camped out behind the Hamilton net and found Marc Hagel in the Bulldogs crease. The Hamilton, native scored his first AHL goal, beating goalie Dustin Tokarski with a one-timer. Newcomer Justin Mercier added an assist for his first point with the club. The Bulldogs pushed ahead with 7:34 left in the second period, taking a 2-1 lead. Defenseman Nathan Beaulieu blasted a rebound past Gustafsson, scoring his fourth goal of the season off Sven Andrighetto's initial shot. Hamilton forward Patrick Holland added an assist on the tally, helping the Bulldogs carry a one-goal lead into the final frame.
The Bulldogs sealed the win with six seconds remaining in regulation after Nick Tarnasky scored an empty-net goal for the 3-1 final.
Iowa returns home for a three-game homestand on Wednesday with the Toronto Marlies at 7:05 p.m. Fans that present a Subway receipt at the Wells Fargo Arena box office may purchase a ticket for $5.00. The Wild also hosts the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and 12:35 p.m. on Saturday. Friday's game includes a PB&J Drive, presented by Zeroez. Fans are asked to bring jars of peanut butter or jelly to donate for Movethefood.org. Those who donate receive a voucher for a ticket to an upcoming Iowa Wild home game. Friday is also $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus. Every Friday, fans (21 and over) may purchase $2.00 ten-ounce domestic drafts through the first period of play. Saturday is the first matinee home game with the 12:35 p.m. faceoff. The team celebrates Kids Winterfest with plenty of kids' activities on the concourse and the first 5,000 fans receive ThunderSticks. It is also a Subway Family Four Pack Night. Fans may purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and four Subway BOGO coupons for as low as $44.
