Cleveland Monsters News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI- Joey Hishon registered a hat trick and Matt Hunwick had a four-point night, but the Lake Erie Monsters (17-16-0-3) were unable to erase a four-goal deficit in the third period, as they fell 6-5 on the road to the Milwaukee Admirals (18-11-5-1). Andrew Agozzino also had a two-assist game, and Guillaume Desbiens scored a shorthanded goal for the Monsters, who finish three games in three nights with the loss. The Monsters have dropped three straight games.
Filip Forsberg scored on a one-timer from the left circle to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead on the power play at 11:33 of the first period. Milwaukee led 1-0 until the final two minutes of the period, when Kevin Henderson added a goal for Milwaukee at 18:02 of the period, and Taylor Beck scored on the power play at 19:10 to give the Admirals a 3-0 lead.
Joey Hishon scored to put the Monsters on the scoreboard at 10:38 of the second period; a power play goal that stands as his sixth of the season. Hishon took a pass from Andrew Agozzino, cut toward the net from the left circle, and sent a shot top-shelf to beat Milwaukee goalie Scott Darling. Matt Hunwick also assisted on the goal.
Milwaukee answered by scoring twice and taking a 5-1 lead on goals from Colton Sissons at 12:22 of the second period and Forsberg, once again, at 15:11 of the second period. The Monsters did add a goal before the second period expired when Guillaume Desbiens took a centering pass from Andrew Agozzino on a two-on-one rush, and fired a puck past Darling at the 18:15 mark. The shorthanded goal was the fourth of the season for Desbiens.
Mikka Salomaki scored a power play goal from the right circle to extend Milwaukee's lead to 6-2 just 41 seconds into the third period, but the Monsters answered at 1:32 of the frame on another tally from Hishon. Mikael Tam found Hishon open on a back-door feed for his second goal of the game, and seventh of the season. Hunwick also assisted on the goal.
Hishon completed his hat trick to pull the Monsters to within 6-4 when he pulled the puck to the side of the goal and banked a shot off a defender and into the net at 16:25 of the third period, with assists to Colin Smith and Hunwick. The goal was the eighth of the season for Hishon.
The comeback attempt wasn't finished, as Hunwick sent a shot top-shelf from a near-impossible angle when he cut the puck up the left wing and netted his eighth goal of the season. Hunwick's goal was assisted by Paul Carey and Karl Stollery. The Monsters, however, were not able to tie the game.
Calvin Pickard stopped 26 of 32 shots in the loss, with his overall record falling to 9-8-2. Darling stopped 17 of 22 shots, and improves to 8-3-0 with the win in net.
The Monsters are back on the ice in Iowa on Friday against the Wild; the puck drops at 8:05 PM, and the game airs live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
