Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Nathan Beaulieu scored a goal, added an assist and defended a teammate who was hit from behind with a fight to complete a 'Gordie Howe Hat Trick' as he led the 'Dogs (19-15-0-4) to a 3-1 victory over the Iowa Wild (15-16-2-2) on Sunday afternoon at Copps Coliseum. The win was Hamilton's seventh in their past eight contests.
Hamilton forward Gabriel Dumont got the 'Dogs on the board first with his eighth goal of the season on the power play with just over one minute to play in the first period. Dumont accepted a pass from forward Martin St. Pierre, pulled the puck to his forehand and slid it past Iowa goaltender Johan Gustafsson in close. Beaulieu earned a second assist on the play.
Iowa forward Marc Hagel tied the game 1-1 on the power play 6:13 into the second period, assisted by forwards Warren Peters and Justin Mercier.
Beaulieu put Hamilton ahead 2-1 at 12:26 of the middle frame when he potted the rebound off a shot from forward Sven Andrighetto into an open Wild cage for his fourth goal of the campaign. Forward Patrick Holland collected a second assist on the sequence.
With six seconds left, Bulldogs forward Nick Tarnasky added an unassisted empty netter for his team co-leading ninth goal of the season to seal the win.
Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves on 28 shots in the Bulldogs net in the win. Gustafsson made 31 saves on 33 shots for the Wild in the loss.
The Bulldogs and the Wild each went 1-for-5 on the power play.
