Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-1 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center to pick up the 500th victory in franchise history. The P-Bruins got goals from Jeremy Reich, Tyler Redenbach, Ben Walter and Sean Curry. The P-Bruins are now 24-17-1-1 on the season, 50 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
The P-Bruins scored only forty seconds into the first period when Reich sent the puck on Sound Tigers goaltender Frederic Cloutier from outside the blueline so the P-Bruins could make a line change. The puck snuck past Cloutier to give Providence a 1-0 lead. Ben Guite and Jason MacDonald were credited with the assists. The P-Bruins scored again at the 9:50 mark of the first period short handed. Zdenek Blatny and Redenbach had a 2-on-1 as Blatny made a pass from the left face off circle to Redenbach at the right face off circle. Redenbach scored upper right corner to send the P-Bruins into the first intermission leading 2-0. Michael Schutte had the second assist.
The P-Bruins added a power play goal at the 9:24 mark of the second period as Walter scored by picking up a loose puck in between the circles and putting it past Cloutier. Nathan Robinson and Pascal Pelletier set up the play as the P-Bruins headed into the final period leading 3-0.
In the third period the Sound Tigers got on the board with a power play goal of their own. At the 10:58 mark Bruno Gervais scored from just inside the blueline with Wyatt Smith and Jeff Hamilton picking up the assists. The P-Bruins added an empty net goal from Sean Curry at the 19:06 mark to go on to win 4-1
Jordan Sigalet stopped 20 of 21 shots for the P-Bruins, while Cloutier stopped 21 of 24 for the Sound Tigers and Cody Rudkowsky brushed aside 3 of 3. The P-Bruins were 1 for 7 on the power play, while Bridgeport was 1 for 5 on the man-advantage.
