Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- The Milwaukee Admirals out-lasted the Barons Friday night, 5-4, in the first of back-to-back meetings in Cleveland this weekend. Patrick Rissmiller recorded two assists in the losing effort for the Barons becoming the franchise's all-time points leader with 167 in his career.

With the seventh best power play in the AHL, Milwaukee used the man-advantage to produce the night's opening goal. Rookie defenseman Shea Weber scored his 11th of the year batting a puck out of midair and past Barons goaltender Dimitri Patzold. The Barons answered at even strength with a rebound goal from Rookie forward Tom Cavanagh, who scored his sixth of the season. Josh Hennessy and Shane Joseph assisted on the Barons goal. Chris Durno re-established the lead for Milwaukee with his first of two goals on the night and a 2-1 lead for the Admirals after a single period of play.

The second period featured the team's combining for five goals, four on the power play, and forty minutes worth of penalty minutes. The result was a 4-4 tie through forty minutes of action. The barrage of offense began with Milwaukee taking advantage of 14 minutes in penalties issued to Barons forward Lukas Kaspar for arguing a tripping call. With back-to-back man-advantage opportunities the Admirals got goals from Darren Haydar and Chris Durno extending their lead to 4-1. Looking for their sixth win in the last seven home games the Barons would not quit scoring three consecutive goals to finish the period and tie the game at 4-4. Steve Bernier potted his 19th of the year with a five-on-three power play rebound on assists from Rissmiller and Ray DiLauro. Josh Hennessy then scored twice, including his first on the power play and his second with just 19-seconds remaining in the period. Rissmiller's assist on Hennessy's first goal of the night was his 167th career point with the Barons surpassing Miroslav Zalesak as the franchise's all-time leader.

The Barons strong play continued through the final period, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Admirals, who scored a late goal for the 5-4 win. Cleveland out-shot Milwaukee 12-7 in the final twenty minutes, but failed to convert on three power play chances. The Admirals' game-winner came with just 91-seconds remaining in the game when Rich Peverly re-directed a shot from Jordin Tootoo past Patzold. The Barons had one last chance to tie the game with a power play in the final 55-seconds, but Ryane Clowe's wrist shot past Brian Finley bounced off the cross bar to finish the game.

Tonight marks the second of a nine game home stand for the Barons, their longest in franchise history. Tomorrow night the Barons and Admirals meet up again for a 7 O'clock tilt. Saturday's game features a double-header as St. Edward and St. Ignatius renew their high school rivalry at 3:45 in the "Cold War III". One ticket is good for both games and the first 3,000 fans at Saturday's game receive a FREE Barons T-Shirt. Also appearing on Saturday will be Tommy from the Rugrats, courtesy of Cox Communications. Tickets for the weekend are on sale now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
