Providence Bruins News Release

Toronto, ON - The Providence Bruins defeated the Toronto Marlies Wednesday night 5-0, extending their point streak to eight games. The P-Bruins got two goals from Zach Senyshyn along with goals from Jordan Szwarz, Anders Bjork and Karson Kuhlman while Dan Vladar made his 10th start of the season in net.

Starting their top line of Szwarz, Ryan Fitzgerald and Bjork paid immediate dividends for Providence as they tallied their fastest goal of the season. Just 16 seconds into play, Bjork poked the puck to Szwarz who was able to start a 2-on-1 break with Fitzgerald. After receiving the puck, Fitzgerald quickly sent a centering pass back to Szwarz in the right slot and he buried his sixth goal of the season. Mason Marchment thought he tied the game for the Marlies with two minutes left in the first, but after a review the referees determined his shot hit both posts, but did not go into the net. They overturned the call on the ice of goal and Providence took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The P-Bruins dominated the second period, scoring four goals in the middle frame to open up the game. Senyshyn used his speed to beat the defense at 1:57 and score his sixth goal of the season. Cameron Hughes and Peter Cehlarik entered the zone along the left side, but the defense lost track of Senyshyn up the right boards. Cehlarik sent a centering feed to Senyshyn in the slot and he put Providence up 2-0. Good forechecking from Anton Blidh at 9:11 created the third goal of the season for Kuhlman. Blidh delivered a hit in the right wing corner, drove the puck to the net and created havoc in front of goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo. With Kaskisuo on the ground, Kuhlman snuck the puck through him to make it 3-0 Bruins.

The second period concluded with a pair of power play goals 21 seconds apart that completely took the crowd at the Coca-Cola Coliseum out of the game. The first came from Bjork at 18:22 as he caught the Marlies in a line change. Kyle Cumiskey quickly fed Bjork along the right boards to re-enter the attacking zone and he used a series of moves to create space. He faked a shot, dragged and sniped a shot top-left corner for his first AHL goal of the season to make it 4-0 Providence. Seconds later, Senyshyn scored his second goal of the night again in close by Kaskisuo. Jakub Zboril and Mark McNeill sent passes to each other across the ice, distracting the defense and allowing Senyshyn to stay parked alone in the crease. McNeill centered the puck to him, and he jammed in his seventh goal of the season. The P-Bruins cruised behind Vladar in the third period, as the rookie recorded the team's first shutout of the season and Providence defeated the reigning Calder Cup Champions 5-0.

Vladar stopped all 35 shots he faced while Kaskisuo stopped 23 of 28 shots. Providence was 2-4 on the power play and 6-6 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins continue their roadtrip Friday night at 7:05pm when they travel to Rochester for their final meeting of the season with Amerks.
