
P-Bruins Defeat Sound Tigers 3-2

Bridgeport, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-2 Friday evening at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The P-Bruins got their goals from Drew Larman, Lane MacDermid and Kirk MacDonald. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Thundersticks Night against the Albany River Rats.
The Sound Tigers took a 1-0 advantage at the 14:12 mark of the opening period. Trevor Smith tallied his 13th goal of the season, while Jesse Joensuu and Jon Gleed picked up the assists. Bridgeport led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
Providence tied the game at one at the 6:05 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Jeff Penner took a shot from the left point and Mikko Lehtonen grabbed the puck. He fed Larman backdoor, who scored his fifth goal of the season. The Sound Tigers retook the lead at the 6:55 mark. Greg Mauldin netted his 14th goal of the season, while Smith had the lone assist. Bridgeport led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
The P-Bruins tied the game at two only 16 seconds into the third period. Jordan Ross took a shot from the right point and the rebound went to Jordan Knackstedt behind the net. He fed the puck in front where it was picked up by MacDermid and fired into the net for his second goal of the season. Providence took its first lead of the game at the 13:41 mark. MacDonald shot the puck towards the net and it went in off the stick of a Sound Tigers player for his ninth goal of the season. The P-Bruins held on for the 3-2 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 35 of 37 shots for the P-Bruins, while Scott Munroe made 22 saves for the Sound Tigers. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins play at the XL Center on Saturday against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. Providence wraps up the week at The Dunk Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Thundersticks Night against the River Rats.
