Albany River Rats News Release
Albany, NY - River Rats defenseman Jonathan Paiement tied the game with 14.5 seconds left in regulation and Nick Dodge scored the overtime-winner to lift Albany to a 3-2 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night at the Times Union Center.
The River Rats trailed 3-2 late in the contest and pulled goaltender Justin Peters for an extra attacker in the final minute of action. Paiement came through with his first goal of the season to force overtime on a long drive through traffic, and Dodge completed Albany's come-back win at 1:51 of the sudden-death extra session on a short-side stuff-in through Sound Tigers goaltender Nathan Lawson.
The River Rats had jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on markers from Defensemen Jay Harrison and Bryan Rodney, but the Sound Tigers erased their deficit with second period goals from Jesse Joensuu and Victor Bartley. Sean Bentivoglio poked-home a short-handed tally midway through the third period to give Bridgeport a 3-2 lead.
Harrison's second of the season gave Albany a 1-0 lead on a laser to the top-right corner from Steven Goertzen and Jacob Micflikier at 9:02. Rodney doubled Albany's lead on a 5-on-3 power play, collecting a breakout feed from goaltender Justin Peters and carrying the puck across the blue line before rifling a shot inside the far post; the play marked Peters' first point of the season.
Peters stopped 22-of-25 shots faced to earn the win as Albany improved to 22-16-2-2 this season. Lawson allowed three goals on 47 shots and took the loss as the Sound Tigers fell to 21-19-1-3 this year. The River Rats out-shot Bridgeport 46-25 and went 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Sound Tigers were 1-for-2 on the man-advantage.
Albany completes its three-in-three weekend tomorrow afternoon with a 4:05 p.m. faceoff in Portland for the team's final game before the All-Star Break.
