
P-Bruins Defeat Norfolk Admirals 3-2

Norfolk, VA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Norfolk Admirals 3-2 Friday evening at the Norfolk Scope. The P-Bruins got their goals from Brad Marchand, Mikko Lehtonen and Martin St. Pierre. The first place P-Bruins continue their eight game road trip Saturday against the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum at 7:05 p.m.
After a scoreless opening period, Norfolk took a 1-0 advantage at the 5:41 mark of the second period. Justin Keller tallied his 12th goal of the season, while Zenon Konopka and Riku Helenius recorded the assists. The Admirals took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission.
Providence tied the game at one early in the third period at the 28 second mark. Marchand won the face off in the left face off circle and after settling down the puck shot it into the net for his 14th goal of the season. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 2:16 mark. Peter Schaefer left the puck for St. Pierre, who dropped it off for Lehtonen. He batted the puck in the net for his 20th goal of the season. Seconds later at the 2:51 mark, the P-Bruins took a 3-1 lead. The P-Bruins had a 3-on-1 opportunity. St. Pierre kept the puck him self and from the right face off circle shot it past Helenius and into the net for his 13th goal of the season. Norfolk pulled within a goal at the 9:58 mark. Radek Smolenak netted his 17th goal of the season, with Vladimir Mihalik and Brandon Segal picking up the assists. The P-Bruins held on for the 3-2 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 40 of 42 shots for the P-Bruins, while Helenius made 29 saves for the Admirals. Â The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
