Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Rochester Americans 4-1 on Friday night in front of 4,489 fans at Copps Coliseum. Michael Duco scored two goals to lead the charge for the Amerks.
After a scoreless first period, David Desharnais scored the game's opening goal at 5:59 of the middle frame. Desharnais skated into the Rochester zone on a two-on-one, where he elected to shoot the puck. Desharnais faked a pass before wristing a shot over the right shoulder of Rochester starting goaltender Mike Brodeur.
The Americans tied the game 1-1 at 16:34 of the second stanza. David Brine blasted a shot that was saved by Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis. Karl Stewart grabbed the loose rebound at the side of the net before flipping the puck past Denis.
Rochester took a 2-1 lead while on the power play at 0:34 of the final frame. Michal Repik sent a pass to Janis Sprukts, who fed the puck to Duco, who was positioned in the slot. Duco one-timed a shot that beat Denis over the right shoulder. The Amerks gained a 3-1 lead at 8:19. Duco fired a shot that bounced off a leg in front of the net and went through the legs off Denis before the puck rolled over the goal line. Shawn Matthias increased Rochester's lead at 9:34. After receiving the puck from Repik, Matthias deked past a Hamilton defender before using a forehand-to-backhand move and sending the puck past Denis.
Following the goal, Cedrick Desjardins replaced Marc Denis in net.
