Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- Milwaukee Admirals center and leading scorer Cal O'Reilly assisted on the team's first two goals, picking up his 200th career point in the process to help lead the team to a 3-2 win over Quad City on Friday night at the Bradley Center.
It was the Admirals sturdy defense and persistent forecheck that kept the team in the driver's seat for the whole third period, giving the Flames just seven shots in the last twenty minutes of the game.
"The guys did the right things for the most part, certainly in the third period with protecting [goaltender Mark] Dekanich. We stuck together as a group," said Admirals Head Coach Lane Lambert.
However, the turning point to the game probably came in the second period. Just 46 seconds after former Admiral John Vigilante's goal to bring the Flames within one, Geoff Peters responded with his fourth of the season and pushed the lead back to a pair at 3-1 and it would stay that way until there were just two minutes left in the game.
Hugh Jessiman used his size as a tool to drive the puck in down the leftwing wide, banking the puck off of Irving before it landed on Peters' tape for an easy tap in.
The Flames closed the gap to 3-2 with a goal by Aki Seitsonen at 17:54 of the third period, but it wasn't enough to get them back in the game, as the Admirals managed to keep Quad City from applying any pressure.
The Admirals first goal was scored by Patric Hornqvist at just under seven minutes into the game. It was James Sixsmith who started taking it behind the Quad City net when he threw it out in front to center Cal O'Reilly. Cal tipped it back to Hornqvist who was waiting for an open net top shelf shot.
Just past the halfway mark of the first the Ads took a 2-0 lead when Jed Ortmeyer took it in all alone and sniped a shot under Flames netminder Leland Irving's blocker for a shorthanded tally.
"I really liked our first period. I thought we came out with a lot of energy and a lot of passion," added Lambert.
The Admirals travel to Iowa on Saturday before returning to the Bradley Center for a 4:00 pm contest against Houston. All 400-level seats are just $3 and $2 from each ticket will be donated to the MACC Fund. Fans can buy tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
