Albany Devils News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - In his first start with the Lowell Devils since October 31, Scott Clemmensen made 34 saves to help his team defeat the Springfield Falcons, 3-2, on Friday at the MassMutual Center. Matt Halischuk registered two assists as the Devils pulled ahead of the Worcester Sharks and back into sole possession of fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

Lowell broke a scoreless tie at 15:39 of the first as Michael Swift and Nicklas Bergfors worked a give-and-go up ice that the latter completed for his 14th goal of the season. Bergfors' marker allowed him to extend his point streak to eight games (5g-5a).

Rod Pelley put the Devils up, 2-0, with 1:26 left in the period when he was able to knock in a rebound after goalie Devan Dubnyk stopped Halischuk's backhander from the slot.

The Falcons needed only 17 seconds of the third period to cut the Devils' lead in half as Ryan Stone found a loose puck in front of Clemmensen and lifted a shot into the top of the net.

The Devils thought they had received some breathing room when Pascal Rheaume scored on the power play at 7:46, but Stone answered back less than a minute later with his second of the evening to make the score, 3-2.

Clemmensen would ensure that his team's lead help up for his fifth victory of the season. Lowell was 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Lowell Devils are on home ice on Saturday, February 28 as they face the Manchester Monarchs at 1:30 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Mark Fraser Bobblehead, courtesy of Courtyard Marriott - Lowell/Chelmsford.
