
P-Bruins Defeat Devils 5-1

Lowell, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 5-1 Saturday evening at the Tsongas Arena. The P-Bruins got their goals from Mikko Lehtonen, Brad Marchand, Jeremy Reich and two goals from Martin St. Pierre. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Worcester Sharks at 2:05 p.m. for Martins Karsums Poster Night.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage only 37 seconds into the game. Johnny Boychuk had the puck at the right point and worked it off to Jeremy Reich. He sent it to St. Pierre along the left board and he put a shot on net. The puck snuck between the post and Lowell goaltender Jeff Frazee into the net for his 11th goal of the season. Providence went ahead 2-0 at the 8:42 mark, while on the power play. Boychuk had the puck at the right point and passed it to Vladimir Sobotka halfway along the right boards. He sent the puck into the slot, where St. Pierre was waiting. He sent the puck over the shoulder of Frazee and into the net for his second goal of the game and 12th of the season. Lowell cut the P-Bruins lead in half at the 11:47 mark, while on a 5-on-3 power play. Pascal Rheaume netted his fifth goal of the season with Nicklas Bergfors and Jon DiSalvatore recording the assists. The P-Bruins took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, the P-Bruins opened up a 3-1 advantage at the 12:30 mark. Zach Hamill had the puck at the blue line and sent it behind the net to Peter Schaefer. He found Lehtonen in the right face off circle and Lehtonen tallied his 12th goal of the season. Providence went ahead 4-1 at the 17:28 mark. Jeff Penner worked the puck out of the P-Bruins zone to Ned Lukacevic in the neutral zone. He made a no-look pass to Marchand. From the right face off circle, Marchand netted his tenth goal of the season.
The P-Bruins finished off the scoring at the 15:52 mark of the third period. Adam McQuaid cleared the puck from the P-Bruins zone to Sobotka in the neutral zone. Sobotka found Reich cutting down the left wing and put the puck on his stick. Reich backhanded the puck into the net for his 16th goal of the season as Providence went on to the 5-1 victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 34 of 35 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Jeff Frazee made 21 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
