January 31, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

The Iowa Chops jumped out to a 4-1 lead in Peoria on Saturday night and managed to withstand a late surge by the Peoria Rivermen to win 4-3 on Saturday night at the Carver Arena in Peoria, a place the Chops will finish with a perfect 4-0 record at during the regular season. The first period didn't see many offensive chances as the Chops outshot the Rivermeb 6-5, but the Chops managed two goals on those six shots. The first Chops goal came on their second power play as TJ Trevelyan and Petteri Wirtanen found Eric Boguniecki in the high slot, who one-timed a slapshot past Ben Bishop for his 9th goal of the season and a 1-0 Chops lead. Late in the period the Chops made it 2-0 on a beautiful 2 on 1 play as Adrian Veideman found Petteri Wirtanen in front, who banged it past Bishop for the 2-0 lead after one period. The 2nd period started with the Rivermen on a 4 on 3 power play and they made the Chops pay with a shot from the side from Julian Talbot that was stopped by David LeNeveu, but the rebound tapped home by Steve Regier to bring the Rivermen to within 2-1. However, the Chops answered right back as Bishop went to play the puck on the side of the net, Matt Caruana picked up the loose puck and found an open Troy Bodie in front who scored his 8th of the season on the open net to make it 3-1 Chops. Andrew Thomas also assisted on the goal. After some great penalty killing and goaltending by LeNeveu late in the 2nd period, the Chops took advantage of a late power play as Brian Salcido walked the puck down into the corner from the point and patiently waited for a passing lane to open, as he then found Captain Ajay Baines, who smashed home the great pass for a 4-1 Chops lead and 2nd power play goal of the night. TJ Trevelyan also assisted on the power play goal. The 3rd period was a tense one for the Chops as Peoria opened with another power play goal from Regier. Midway through Justin Fletcher brought the Rivermen to within a goal with a slapshot from the point to make it 4-3. However, the Chops led by some big saves by LeNeveu held on for the 4-3 win to snap a four-game winless streak. The Chops moved their record to 5-1-1 over the Rivermen this season.
