NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Playing in just his third career game as a professional, Stingrays goaltender Shane Owen stole the show, stopping 30 of 31 shots in a 4-1 South Carolina win.

It was Owen's second win since joining the Rays (28-19-2), and the third straight defeat for Gwinnett (20-22-2-5).

The lone tally of the first period came on the powerplay, as Trent Campbell buried a rebound chance off the far post to give the Rays a 1-0 lead at 17:08.

Jake Hauswirth made it 2-0 at 9:58 of the second, beating Carrozzi five-hole on a screened shot from the slot. South Carolina carried that edge into the third.

Gwinnett made a game of it early in the stanza, as Akim Aliu beat Owen with a blistering one-time from the slot on the powerplay to cut the deficit to 2-1. It was Aliu's sixth goal in five games since being assigned to Gwinnett from AHL Chicago.

The tally at 4:52 was set up by Mike Forney and Dustin Cameron, allowing Forney to extend his road point streak to nine games.

The Gladiators mustered several brilliant late chances but Owen stood on his head, protecting the lead until Trent Campbell's empty-netter and an own goal off the stick of Dustin Cameron (credited to Tommy Goebel) capped the scoring in the waning minutes.

After being outshot 13-5 in the first being by the Rays, the Glads outshot them 26-17 the rest of the way.

Gwinnett is back in action at home on Saturday, again facing the Rays at 7:05 p.m.
