
Stingrays Extend Winning Streak Over Gladiators With 4-1 Victory

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (28-19-1-1) pushed their winning streak to seven games over the Gwinnett Gladiators (20-22-2-5) with a 4-1 victory Friday night in front of 5,004 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Stingrays broke open the scoring on the power play at 17:08 of the first period when forward Trent Campbell knocked in a loose puck past the left pad of Gladiators goaltender Chris Carrozzi from the bottom of right-wing circle. Forward Matt Scherer and defenseman Josh Godfrey earned assists on Campbell's seventh goal of the year.
Forward Jake Hauswirth gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead at 9:58 of the second frame snapping a shot between the legs of Carrozzi off a pass from forward Tommy Goebel. Defenseman Joe Finley grabbed the second assist.
Gladiators forward Akim Aliu cut the lead in half on the power play at 4:52 of the third stanza from forwards Michael Forney and Dustin Cameron. Campbell made it 3-1 Stingrays with an empty-net power play goal at 18:50 from defenseman Patrick Cullity. Goebel added the final marker with eight seconds to play as a pass intended for forward Grant McNeill deflected off a Gladiator skate and past a sliding Carrozzi. McNeill and defenseman Nate Kiser registered assists.
Stingrays netminder Shane Owen grabbed first-star honors and his second straight victory stopping 30 of 31 Gladiators shots. Carrozzi dropped to 2-5-0-1 against the Stingrays blocking 26 of 29 chances. The Stingrays ended the contest 2-for-5 on the power play while the Gladiators went 1-for-6.
The Stingrays and Gladiators move the three-game weekend series to The Arena at Gwinnett Center tomorrow, Saturday, February 12 at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, February 13 at 4:05 p.m. Tune in to both games LIVE on ESPN Radio 910 and www.stingrayshockey.com.
