Florida Everblades News Release
CINCINNATI, OH - The Florida Everblades (28-23-3) suffered a tough 6-1 loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones (20-20-8) on Friday night at US Bank Arena allowing a season-high 54 shots on goal.
The first 20 minutes saw the teams each put a goal up on the board, but it was the Cyclones that carried the majority of the play. En-route to outshooting the Everblades 19-10 in the opening period, Cincinnati opened the scoring at 4:33 when a slap shot by Adam Comrie from the left point found its way through traffic, off the right goal post and into the net.
The Cyclones continued to pressure the Everblades but goaltender Jaroslav Janus showed he strength turning away all the remaining chances for Cincinnati.
In the meantime late in the first period while on their second power play the Everblades tied the score with 1:32 remaining in the frame. The play began with Bobby Raymond and David Fischer working the puck up ice. Mike McKenzie took control in the neutral zone and after being given a lot of space skated the puck through the right circle before unleashing a strong wrist shot that sailed past Cyclones net-minder Chet Pickard. The goal was McKenzie's 17th of the season.
After a good first shift by the Everblades in the second period, the remainder of the period was owned by the Cyclones. Cincinnati tacked on a pair of goals while outshooting Florida 21-4 in the middle 20 minutes.
The first of the two goals for the Cyclones came at 5:53 when Dustin Sproat chipped home his 15th goal of the season from the left side of the crease. Cincinnati then grabbed a two-goal lead later in the period at 14:45 when Paul McLlveen converted a 2-on-1 rush by wristing home his fifth goal of the year from the right circle.
The Cyclones continued their control of the game into the third period tallying three goals in a four minute span midway through the frame. The first of the trio of goals would come off the stick of former Everblade Brady Calla at the 7:33 mark for his third goal of the season to open a 4-1 lead.
At 9:08 newly acquired Casey Pierro-Zabotel cashed in on his 15th goal of the season completing a 2-on-1 rush with a quick snap shot from the right circle that went off the underside of the crossbar and in, then Calla finished off the scoring with his second of the night at 10:33 with a quick shot from the top of the right circle that beat Janus low on the ice to his right.
Janus was busy in net stopping 48 shots, but saw his record fall to 9-11-0 while Pickard improved his record to 7-11-2 after turning away 20 of 21 shots.
