Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack met the Kitchener Rangers for the second time in less than a week tonight as they made their first visit to the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium this season. It was a different line up than last Saturday when the Kitchener Rangers stormed out to an early 5-0 lead, Nick Suzuki and Markus Phillips returned from Team Canada and Andrew Perrott made his Owen Sound debut after being acquired earlier in the day.

The Rangers struck first once again, with Greg Meireles converting on a power play chance just over three minutes into the game. The Attack rebounded well and continued to push the pace against Kitchener but couldn't convert any of their chances. Thanks to some timely saves by Mack Guzda, the Attack headed to the first intermission only trailing by one.

Owen Sound began the second frame on a Baywest Nissan power play and couldn't quite find the back of the net. The Bears kept pushing and 6 minutes into the period Nick Suzuki picked up where he left off and squeezed a strange one past Kitchener netminder Luke Richardson for his 21st of the season and a tie game. Adam McMaster got the only assist on the goal, his first point as a member of the Attack. Mack Guzda made more big saves to keep the game tied and it paid immense dividends for the team. He stoned Eric Guest on a breakaway, Cade Robinson made a gorgeous move to get past a Kitchener defender and Brady Lyle tapped it in for the first Attack lead of the game. Garreffa got one back for the Rangers later in the period, and the two teams headed to the third period all knotted up at 2 with shots even at 24 apiece.

The first period began with Kitchener rookie Reid Valade scoring his first career OHL goal 3 minutes in. Aidan Dudas quickly responded after his incredible back check that may have saved a goal on the defensive end, then getting into the offensive zone and showing off his wicked release to make it a 3-3 game. Nick McHugh made it a 4-3 game after a solid individual effort, but the game would not end without controversy. With the goalie pulled and the seconds falling off the clock, Nick Suzuki appeared to tie the game with 1.3 seconds remaining in the game. It went to review, and the refs determined that it was knocked in with a glove and the goal was off the board along with at least a point in the standings. Kitchener hangs on for a 4-3 victory over the visiting Attack.

Final shots on goal in the game were 32-30 in favour of the Rangers. The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was won by Cade Robinson. The Three Stars of the evening were Joseph Garreffa in 3rd with a goal and an assist, Aidan Dudas with 2nd place honours with 1 goal, and Alexey Lipanov claiming 1st star with 3 assists.

The Owen Sound Attack return to action tomorrow night in Owen Sound against the North Bay Battalion. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. at the Bayshore.
