The Niagara IceDogs fell 6-3 against the Erie Otters. Tonight's game was the first of three home games against Erie this season.
The 'Dogs netted the first goal of the game! Kirill Maksimov scored his team leading 26th of the season. After zipping through the neutral zone, he passed to Ben Jones, who sent it back to him. Maksimov then scored his goal from the edge of the faceoff circle. Erie scored a few minutes later to tie up the game. Towards the end of the period, the Otters scored again to get the 2-1 lead.
The Otters scored a couple times in the first part of the second period to gain the 4-1 lead. After Erie got a slashing penalty, the 'Dogs scored within eight seconds! Jones sent a pass to Maxi from behind the net, who spun and shot it between two Erie players to Philip Tomasino. Tomasino got his shot past the netminder while sliding on his knee to cut Erie's lead to 4-2.
Bradey Johnson netted his eighth of the season to cut Erie's lead to 4-3 early in the third period. His tap-in goal from the side of the net was assisted by Oliver Castleman. Erie scored on two powerplays later in the period to win the game 6-3.
The 'Dogs will face Erie three more times this season, with two home games and one away game.
On Sunday, the 'Dogs travel down the QEW to face Hamilton. They return home for back-to-back games, one on Thursday the 10th against Guelph and the other on Friday the 11th against Kingston.
