OHL Oshawa Generals

Game Preview: Gens at Home Tonight Squaring off against Steelheads at 7:35pm

January 4, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals return from the road to take on the Mississauga Steelheads tonight at the Tribute Communities Centre. With a big victory over the Frontenacs on Tuesday afternoon and a close loss to the Battalion last night, the Gens record sits at 22-14-2-0 on the season. Looking to rebound from yesterday's loss, the Gens will aim for a win over the Steelheads in front of the hometown crowd tonight.

Tonight's matchup marks the third time Oshawa will meet with the Steelheads this season. So far, each team has a win in the previous two contests, with the Gens most recently beating Mississauga 6-2 on the road last week. A strong performance in that game came from Serron Noel who recorded a 4-point night in a big offensive game. Tonight, Oshawa will aim to take the lead in the season series with Mississauga with a two-point effort.

With a win on Tuesday and a tough loss yesterday, the Gens still remain near the top of the eastern conference. With 46 points in 38 games on the season, the team holds third place in the eastern conference after passing the Sudbury Wolves and second place in the east division behind Ottawa. Meanwhile, the Mississauga Steelheads are near the middle of the pack in the east, sitting in sixth place with a record of 18-15-3-1 on the season. With the central division foes coming off two straight wins, Oshawa will aim to put an end to Mississauga's streak at home tonight.

A Gens player coming off a huge performance in the team's 5-2 victory over the Frontenacs on New Year's Day and last night's close game with the Battalion is forward Anthony Salinitri. After potting three goals against Kingston to complete the hattrick at home, Salinitri now has three hattricks in his past seven games played. The forward also notched another goal and added an assist in North Bay yesterday. Wasting no time making his offensive presence felt after arriving by trade in November, Salinitri now has 12 goals and 17 points in 13 games as a General. Look for the team's goal leader to continue to add to his impressive season totals in tonight's contest.

Head to the Tribute Communities Centre tonight for the 7:35pm puck drop to cheer on the Gens take on the Mississauga Steelheads! After tonight, the team will head on the road to battle the Ottawa 67's on Sunday night to close out the weekend.
