Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - Mike Hofstrand scored 1:35 into overtime to raise the Bakersfield Condors (8-0-1) to a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Gulls (4-4-2) at the Sports Arena on Wednesday night.

It was just the second road game of the season for the Condors, and San Diego got on the board first with Nick Ganga netting his first of the season just 2:23 in. The rest of the period was back-to-back action, with several odd-man rushes on each side and 18 combined shots. The Condors bid to tie the game in the second period was waved off after ruling Dennis Shiryaev had kicked the puck past Gulls G Trevor Koenig. Bakersfield continued to pressure, outshooting the Gulls 13-8 in the frame. For the first time all season, the Condors were held without a goal through 40 minutes.

Connor James finally put Bakersfield on the board on the power play at 9:04 of the third stanza. Driving the net down the middle of the ice, the rookie redirected a centering feed from Lars-Peder Nagel for the equalizer and his fifth of the year. The teams battled to overtime with a 1-1 score.

The Condors pressured San Diego early in the extra session with several opportunities. After San Diego failed to clear the zone on one of them. Hofstrand stole it away in between the circles and lifted home his third goal of the campaign to keep the Condors undefeated in regulation.

The Condors return home on Thursday, November 18th against the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:00 p.m. It's the second Student ID Night of the season, courtesy of WB-TV 12 and 106.1 KRAB Radio. All junior high, high school and college students can purchase lower level seats for just $1 by presenting their student ID at the box office.
