Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Anchorage, Alaska – Making their first visit to the only team located north of Victoria in the ECHL, the Salmon Kings took the early lead on defencman Brad Dexter's 1st goal of the season, a power play goal at 2:13 of the 1st period.

However a penalty to Salmon Kings forward Mike Barrie, and a resulting power play goal at 4:25 by Alaska's Olivier Filion, began a flurry of goal scoring that they never recovered from. A shell shocked Salmon Kings goaltender David Brumby was then beat three more times, by Chris Minard at 7:59, Kimbi Daniels at 8:17 and finally another power play goal at 9:14 by Joe Talbot to make the score 4-1. Coach Maxwell then called a time-out and mercifully pulled Brumby from the firing line for a short breather. Brumby was replaced by Jeff Stone but then returned to the net seconds later.

The Salmon Kings were able to pull together and finish the 1st period at that same 4-1 deficit. The 2nd period proved much stronger for the Salmon Kings as they managed to direct 13 shots at Alaska's Lance Mayes. Unfortunately Alaska still scored the lone goal of the period when Joe Talbot notched his 4th goal of the season at the 7:12 mark to make it 5-1.

The 3rd period was an even affair with Alaska putting 10 shots on Brumby and scoring twice on goals by Charles Linglet and Olivier Fillion, his 2nd of the night. The Salmon Kings returned the favour with 11 shots on the Alaska netminder, while counting goals by Ryan Watson, his 4th in four games, and finally by Ryan Finnerty, with his club leading 5th of the year. The final score was Alaska 7, Victoria 3.

The loss drops the Salmon Kings record to 2-7 on the season. The Salmon Kings have return engagements with the Alaska Aces here on Saturday and Sunday before heading back to Victoria for a couple of days. The Salmon Kings won't play their first game home contest until December 5th at Bear Mountain Arena against the Bakersfield Condors.
