San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO – The holiday season is coming up and the Gulls are spending more than ample time in the community. The month of November and December are filled with player appearances and fundraisers. The holiday spirit is in the air and the Gulls are more than happy to spend time in the San Diego community.

Here's an updated list of some of the events the players and staff have attended:

Oct. 29: Deschatelets and other Gulls staff members appeared at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center for their Halloween bash. During the event, they judged a "Chili Cook-off," and a Halloween costume contest. They also conducted a hockey 101 exhibit.

Nov.11: Garrow and Deschatelets appeared at the San Diego Amateur Hockey Club's practice at the San Diego Ice Arena (Mira Mesa). Both Garrow and Deschatelets helped the team with hockey and skating drills.

Nov. 13: The Gulls' mascot and the Gulls Girls appeared at Embrace's Love & Live Youth Workshop. They joined kids during lunch-time to promote diversity in sports and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Here's a list of events that the Gulls will be participating in over the next few weeks. (There will be additions so make sure you check out the Gulls' web site (www.sandiegogulls.com) for updates.)

Nov. 23: Gulls players and mascots will appear at Oak Park Elementary School for the Parents' PLACE event. They will speak about the importance and values of a good education. They will take pictures and sign autographs for the kids.

Nov. 26: Gulls players, Gulls Girls and mascots will appear at the San Diego Amateur Hockey Club's Thanksgiving tournament at both the San Diego Ice Arena (Mira Mesa) and Iceoplex (Escondido).

Dec. 7: Several Gulls players and staff members will be appearing at the 10th annual Shop With a Jock event, which will take place at Mervyns directly across from the Sports Arena. Shop With A Jock is a yearly function, organized by the Junior Seau Foundation. Those participating will help underprivileged children shop for their holiday wish-list. The children will not be given money. Their purchases will be subtotaled at the register and the Foundation will pay for the purchases at the end of the event.

Dec. 18: The Gulls' mascot will appear at the third annual Bikes For Kids Party, held in Poway. Each year hundreds of bikes are given away to orphaned and disadvantaged children in San Diego. All of the money raised for this event will go to the kids, in the form of bikes, helmets, food and funding for the party.
