Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The Louisiana IceGators played their best 3rd period of the season, scoring two third period goals, to defeat the first place Gwinnett Gladiators 4-2 Wednesday night in the Cajundome.
The IceGators outshot the Gladiators 13-7 in the final 20 minutes and got the game winning goal via a Gwinnett mistake. Rookie defenseman Dave Mc Culloch turned the puck over directly in front of his net, Alex Materukhin's first shot was denied but the rebound came right back and the easy backhand tap in made the score 3-2 at 10:28 of the period, Materukhin's 2nd of the night and 4th of the season. Late in the period, after a McCulloch tripping call gave the Gators a power play, Wes Mason tipped in a perfect pass from Randy Dagenais from the blue line to seal the 4-2 win. Mason leads the Gators with 10 points (4-6-10). Kyle Kettles got his 3rd win in a row stopping 31-33 shots.

The Gators answered at 13:20 as Mark Rooneem broke down the left wing and centered to a wide open Mike Omicioli, one deke later the puck was in the back of the net and the score tied at one. For the Rhode Island native, it was his 5th lamp lighter of the young season.
The two teams exchanged goals in the 2nd as Cam Brown's 6th goal of the year, a power play wrist shot from the slot at 10:04 put the Gladiators up 2-1. Louisiana would answer late in the period as Pascal Pelletier stole the puck at the left point and passed to a wide open Alex Materukhin.
