Royals to Battle Stingrays Tomorrow

Reading, PA – The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, are set to do battle with the South Carolina Stingrays Friday night in the Sovereign Center. This is the only meeting between these two clubs and one of only nine games out of Conference for the Royals this season. Royals left wing David Masse has been recalled to Hershey, while right wing Cail MacLean has been assigned by the Bears. Recently acquired forward Nick Greenough has been activated.

The Royals have the edge in the season series with a 2-1-1 mark over the Stingrays. The home team has dominated this series. Reading is a perfect 2-0-0 in the Sovereign Center all-time against South Carolina. Reading and South Carolina have met at least once each of the three seasons the Royals have been in existence. Masse, 21, tallied his second goal (GW) Tuesday night in the Royals win over Peoria. The Montreal, Quebec native has two assists and four points with 23 penalty minutes this season. Masse attended the Hershey Bears training camp in September prior to being assigned to Reading. He appeared in 19 regular season games in 2003-04 with the Bears, and tallied four goals for nine points and eight penalty minutes.

MacLean, 28, was recalled to Hershey on October 25. He appeared in ten games with the Bears, but was held scoreless and posted two penalty minutes. Prior to his recall, MacLean started the season in Reading and played in two games with the Royals on opening weekend in the ECHL on October 24 and 25. In two games with Reading, the Middleton, Nova Scotia native did not score.

Greenough, 23, was acquired by Reading on Monday from the Augusta Lynx. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound forward appeared in just five games with the Lynx and registered no points but 24 minutes in penalties. Greenough is expected to be in the line up Friday versus South Carolina and will wear sweater #23. The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
