Outs, No Problem, Sea Dogs Sweep Bowie, Win 6-3

(Bowie, MD) - Michael Bowden (6-4) earned his second straight win and Portland scored five runs with two outs, completing a three-game sweep of the Bowie Baysox, 6-3 on Thursday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium. The Sea Dogs have won five straight road games and four straight series away from Hadlock Field.

Bowden improved to 3-0 in his last four starts, working five innings on five hits and one run. The 20-year old righty fanned seven, including five in his final three innings of work.

Mike James notched his 19th save of the season with a scoreless ninth but had to work in and out of trouble. James allowed a walk and single to start the inning but fanned Bryan Bass and got pinch-hitter Nolan Reimold to hit into a game-ending double play.

Chris Waters (6-9) suffered the loss for Bowie, allowing three runs and six hits over six innings pitched.

During the last two games, Portland has scored nine of 11 runs with two outs. In the first inning, Jeff Natale started a rally with a double and scored on Jay Johnson's two-out single. Bowie tied the game in the second inning on Luis Jimenez's RBI single to right field.

John Otness, who had the game-winning hit in the series opener, delivered a two-run single to snap a 1-1 tie with two outs in the third inning. Portland added a run in the seventh inning when Johnson hit into a run-scoring double play. Zach Borowiak blasted a two-out, two-run homer in the eighth inning to extend Portland's lead to 6-1.

Bowie scored two runs with two outs in the eighth inning off Beau Vaughan. Oscar Salazar and Jimenez knocked in runs with singles but Vaughan retired Gustavo Molina to end the inning.

The Sea Dogs finished the season 6-1 against Bowie and continue their 6-game roadtrip on Friday night in Harrisburg. Righty Chris Smith will make the start against Garrett Mock.
