Trenton Thunder News Release
(Binghamton, NY)- Two homers and four RBI from 2B Mark Kiger, along with six innings of one-run baseball from starter Bobby Parnell, led Binghamton to a 8-0 win over the Trenton Thunder on Thursday night. The Thunder finish their seven-game road trip at 2-5.
Binghamton (47-62) jumped on Trenton starter Jeff Marquez for two runs in the 1st Inning, including a solo homer from 2B Mark Kiger. The Mets then added six runs in the 3rd Inning for an 8-0 lead. Brett Harper started the scoring with an RBI single. Then a bases-loaded walk to RF Caleb Stewart made it a 4-0 lead. After an RBI single from LF Jamar Hill, CF Miguel Negron delivered a three-run double for an 8-0 lead. Marquez (11-7) had his shortest outing of the season (2 2/3 innings) and allowed his most runs (8) this year. Marquez walked four and struck out three.
Mets starter Bobby Parnell allowed just one run over six innings for the win. Parnell (2-4) allowed four hist with one walk and eight strikeouts. Trenton (65-44) got their only runs on RBI hits by Bronson Sardinha. He had a double in the 6th Inning and then a single in the 8th Inning to plate the runs.
Binghamton then added four runs in the 6th Inning and two runs in the 7th Inning off reliever Michael Gardner. Gardner allowed 10 hits in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
The Thunder begin a four-game series with Bowie at Waterfront Park on Friday. Game time is 7:05 PM. Jason Jones (8-6, 2.56) starts for the Thunder against Bowie's Radhames Liz (9-4, 3.25).
Thunder Notes
- It was the 4th time in the last nine games that the Thunder allowed at least 10 runs in a game. They had allowed 10 runs in a game only once in their first 100 games.
- In the last nine games, Trenton pitching has allowed 69 runs (7.7 runs/game).
- The 10 hits allowed by Gardner was second time on this trip in which a Trenton pitcher allowed at least 10 hits.
