Golson Named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week
CF Greg Golson was recognized for his play during the week of July 23-29. Golson began the week at Clearwater (FSL) where, in a two-day span, he went 8-10 with a 3B, HR and 4 RBI against Tampa Bay. He was then promoted to Reading (AA) where he went 3-for-5 was a 2B, 2R and a SB in his debut. In his first seven games with Reading, Golson is hitting .310 (9-29) with 2B, 3B, HR, 2 RBI and 7 R.
New Faces
With the MLB trade deadline passing on Tuesday, the Phillies sent LHP Matt Maloney to the Cincinnati Reds and IF Jesus Merchan to the Seattle Mariners. With Reading, Maloney was 9-7 with a 3.94 ERA in 21 starts. He ranked second in the league in innings pitched (125.2) and fourth in SO (115). Merchan was hitting .330, which ranked second, with 16 2B, 7 HR and 44 RBI. Their roster spots were filled by RHP Gary Knotts who was signed out of Independent Ball and RHP Julio Mateo who was aquired from Seattle in return for Merchan. Knotts was 7-5 with a 2.65 ERA with Newark in 108.2 IP. He was 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA in July. Mateo was 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA in 9 games with Seattle and 3-1 with a 0.79 ERA and 12 saves for Triple A Tacoma. Knott will join the starting rotation while Mateo will add depth to the bullpen.
Down the Stretch They Come
The Phils have 31 games remaining as they make a final push for the final playoff spot. There remaining schedule includes games against Binghamton, Bowie, Trenton, Erie, Akron, Altoona and Harrisburg. The combined winning percentage of those seven teams is .506 (386-377) and this season, the R-Phils have a .530 winning % (44-39) against them.

2B Peeter Ramos has hit the Binghamton Mets' pitchers to the tune of .412 (7-17) this season with a 2B, 2 HR and 6 RBI. Against the Baysox, C Jason Hill leads the team hitting .442 (19-43) in 11 games. He has 5 2B, HR and 8 RBI.
Dishing It Out
R-Phils catchers have been charged with only seven passed balls all season, which is second best in the league, while throwing out 42% of would be base stealers, which is also good for second in the league.
Multi-hit Success
3B Mike Costanzo has 24 mulit-hit games this season and the Phils are 19-5 in those games.
