Sergio Santos Promoted To Triple-A Syracuse

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release


Harrisburg, PA- The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, today announced that shortstop Sergio Santos has been promoted to the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs of the International League.

Santos, 24, was batting .253 with a career-high 17 home runs and 55 RBI at the time of his promotion. He led New Hampshire in home runs, RBI, extra-base hits (50), doubles (31) and SLG% (.488). The 17 home runs are tied for fifth in Fisher Cats' single-season history.

The Bellflower, CA native was among the Eastern League leaders in a number of offensive categories. He was tied for first in doubles, second in extra-base hits and fifth in homers. Santos represented the Fisher Cats at the Eastern League All-Star Game on July 11 in Norwich, CT where he was also crowned the Home Run Derby Champion.

Originally an Arizona Diamondbacks' number-one draft pick (27th overall) in 2002, Santos is a career .253 hitter with 64 home runs and 315 RBI. He was acquired the Blue Jays in December, 2005 from the Diamondbacks along with third baseman Troy Glaus in exchange for pitcher Miguel Batista and second baseman Orlando Hudson.

The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Tuesday night at 6:35pm to open a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators.
