Evansville, Ind. - Thursday the Otters traded utility man Justin Randall for the second time in less than a year. After being shipped to the Florence Freedom last July, Randall will now swap his Otters jersey for a Southern Illinois Miners uniform. The Otters receive future considerations in return.

"There were inquires early before the season even started, by Southern Illinois about trying to acquire Randall. With the emergence of Javier Brown, and the way he was playing defense, Justin's playing time would have been down," commented Otters' manager Wayne Krenchicki.

A roster move became necessary when designated hitter Greg Alexander became healthy enough to be activated off of the injured list. Alexander went 1-4 with an RBI single in his Otters debut Thursday.

Randall was off to a 3-18 (.167) start this season after being reacquired from Florence in December. Randall underwent micro-fracture knee surgery in November, making a remarkable recovery to be ready for the 2009 baseball season.

"[Justin's] a really fine young man. He was willing to do anything for the coaching staff and the team. Whatever it took," added Krenchicki.

"This will be a good move for him, even though I know he has a lot of friends in this town, and a lot of fans. For that I'm sorry, but I'm trying to do what's best for the ball club."
