River City Rascals News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - The Rascals fell for the first time in 2009 to Washington, dropping a 4-3 decision in ten innings at Consol Energy Park. River City dropped to 2-2 on the road trip.

The Rascals (9-5) clawed back in the seventh with three runs to tie the game at three. Ryan Wehrle singled with two outs to start the rally and Andy Reilly followed with a walk. After JoJo Batten was hit by a pitch to load the bases, pinch-hitter Kevin Reynolds drew a walk to make it a 3-1 game. Scott Houin then tied it up with a single to center field to plate two and tie the contest at three.

Michael Parker led off the tenth for Washington (4-9) with a single and advanced to second on a Grant Psomas single. After a fielder's choice advanced Parker to third, Jacob Dempsey lifted a sacrifice fly to left to give the Wild Things their first win against the Rascals.

Tony Marsala (0-1) was tagged with the loss after starting the tenth on the mound. Kevin Hart preceded Marsala with three scoreless innings without a hit and three strikeouts.

Josh Eachues (1-0) earned the win, tossing 3.1 innings without allowing a run on one hit. Starter Craig Snipp lasted the first 4.2 innings before leaving with an injury. Snipp was outstanding before leaving, allowing only two hits with four strikeouts.

Jake Laber got the start for River City and went the first six frames, allowing three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

Houin was 2-5 with two RBI and stolen base in the loss. The right fielder was ejected in the tenth inning after arguing with the umpire. Houin was attempting to steal second and was called out on a close call.

Wehrle, Batten and Chad Maddox each had one hit for River City.

The same two teams will meet tomorrow night in Washington, PA. Scott Turmail will oppose Jason Neitz on the mound. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m.
