Firemen and policemen to square off at Road Ranger

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Fans will not need to be alarmed when they see a plethora of squad cars, fire engines, and ambulances at Road Ranger Stadium on July 9. The vehicles will be on hand as a part of the first annual Guns vs. Hoses Charity Softball Game prior to the Rockford RiverHawks' home game.

The contest features members of the Rockford police department teamed against personnel from the Lake County Firefighters. The game will be played for charity, with proceeds benefitting the Harlem Community Center of Rockford.

The softball doubleheader begins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, before the Rockford RiverHawks' game against the Traverse City Beach Bums at 7:05 p.m.

Area law enforcement and firefighting departments are encouraged to attend, as all policemen and firemen in attendance will be honored before the game. Tickets are $8.00, which includes admission to the RiverHawks' game. For each ticket sold, $2.00 will be donated to the Harlem Community Center.

The RiverHawks' game will offer $1.00 draft beers as part of its regular Thirsty Thursday promotion, sponsored by Miller Lite.

The Rockford RiverHawks are the most highly attended minor-league baseball team in the Stateline. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league playing its 17th season this summer.
