Miners Add All-Star Randall

Southern Illinois Miners News Release

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners have acquired all-star Justin Randall from the Evansville Otters in exchange for future considerations. To make room for Randall, outfielder Jamie McGraw has been released.

"Whenever you have a chance to pick up an all-star, it will improve your team," Miners Manager Mike Pinto said. "I liked his approach when a league all-star becomes available, you have to pull the trigger. Jamie did a good job for us, and hopefully we can find an opportunity for him to play somewhere. This is a move that will make us better."

In 2008 with the Otters, Randall, 23, hit .323 in 53 games, splitting time between the outfield and second base, and was named to the Frontier League West All-Star team. In late July he was traded to the Florence Freedom where he appeared in 31 games, primarily as a designated hitter. A left-handed hitter, Randall re-signed with Evansville following the 2008 season.

McGraw was 0-for-4 with five walks in six games with the Miners this season.

Tonight the Miners will play the Kings in Kalamazoo. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT. Southern Illinois returns home on Tuesday, June 9 at 7:05 p.m. to face the Evansville Otters. For tickets and a complete schedule, visit www.southernillinoisminers.com.
