Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - Starting pitcher Zach Petersime (1-1) threw 7.0 scoreless innings as the Evansville Otters won 4-0 on Thursday night against the Rockford Aviators.

Petersime scattered four hits on the evening as Evansville improved to 4-2 this season.

The Otters mustered only two hits but they did capitalize against Rockford pitcher Cole Green who had five walks, and five wild pitches. Three of Green's wild pitches came in the second inning when the Otters scored two runs without the benefit of a hit.

Evansville stayed hitless into the fourth inning when two walks and another wild pitch pushed the Otters up 3-0.

Petersime took the three run lead to the fifth where he worked around a jam. With runners at first and third with no outs, he induced infielder Kyle Dhanani to a fly out and catcher Adrian Martinez into an inning ending double play. Evansville turned three double plays against Rockford in the series finale.

Leading 3-0, Evansville recorded their first hit with a one-out single from first baseman Nick Schwaner. He was plated later in the inning on an RBI double from outfielder J.R. Higley.

Petersime finished the night retiring seven of the last eight batters he faced. Reliever Taylor Dennis, who pitched locally at USI, worked around two walks for a scoreless eighth and lefty Jose Velez recorded two strikeouts in the ninth to complete the victory.

The Otters have now won back to back series to start the season. They will look to continue their winning ways on Friday night when Evansville opens a series against the Frontier Greys (0-6). LHP Chad James (0-1, 6.75 ERA) will be on the mound for the Otters against Greys righty Clint Wright (0-1, 9.00 ERA).

Friday is Fifth Third Opening Friday. The first 2500 fans on Friday will receive a magnetic schedule courtesy of Fifth Third Bank. Game time is 6:35 pm CT.
