Normal, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, exploded for 17 hits to break a four-game losing streak and defeat the River City Rascals 10-1 on Thursday night at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters again opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning as Rascals starter Ethan Carter surrendered five consecutive hits before he was lifted, with RBIs going to Roman Hernandez and a two-run double by Aaron Dudley. The Belters added a run in the frame on a sacrifice fly to deep center by Tyler Shover.

An opposite-field home run by Mike Schwartz that slipped over the left field fence gave the CornBelters a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning.

The Rascals got on the board with a home run by Josh Ludy that cleared the batter's eye in dead center field to cut the Normal lead to 5-1.

The Belters added two runs in the fifth when Dudley led off with a walk, went to third on a double by Sam Judah and scored on a fielder's choice high chopping ground ball to a drawn-in infield by Tyler Shover for a 6-1 lead. Ozney Guillen then singled up the middle with two outs to score Judah for a 7-1 advantage.

Normal struck again in the seventh with a double by Shover, a single by Brian Bistagne and the second RBI single by Guillen to push the lead to 8-1.

Mike Schweiss (1-1) earned the win with a seven-inning performance that gave up one run on four hits with four strikeouts without a walk. Carter (0-1) took the loss.
