Rockford Aviators News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Rockford Aviators (2-3), presented by Pearson, put a bit of a damper on Opening Day at Bosse Field by splitting a double header with the Evansville Otters (3-2).

The Aviators lost the first game by a score of 7-2. Starting pitcher, Joey Wagman, went 4.2 innings gave up six runs on six hits while walking five and striking out two.

Evansville got on the board first when first baseman, Nick Schwaner, hit a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the third inning and the Otters never looked back.

The lone bright spot for the Aviators in the first game was a two-run shot from Jose Martinez in the top of the sixth inning that gave the Aviators their only two runs of the game. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to spark a rally, but Martinez wasn't quite done for the night.

In game two, the Otters scored in the first inning when Schwaner slapped an RBI single to drive in John Shultz. It would be their only run in the game.

In the top of the seventh inning and down to their final three outs, Martinez tied the game up with a leadoff no-doubter over the left field wall. The Aviators went on to take the lead when Kyle Dhanani drove in Kenny Bryant from second to put the team ahead 2-1.

Gerardo Sanchez entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and retired the side in order, striking out the final batter, to secure the victory.

The Aviators and the Otters will square off again tonight in the rubber match for the series at 6:35 p.m. Central Standard Time. You will be able to listen to the game on the Meridix Network as Jared Revlett and the Dental Dimensions Pregame show will begin at 6:20 p.m. tomorrow evening.
