Rockford Aviators News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - It was another rough night for the Rockford Aviators (2-4) at the plate tonight as they were shut out by the Evansville Otters (4-2) losing 4-0.

The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, were looking to get back to .500 on the year with a win tonight, but they just couldn't get the bats moving as the team mustered up just four hits on the night.

Starting pitcher Cole Green (0-1) made his first appearance for the Aviators and went five innings while giving up two hits, four runs, as he walked five batters and struck out five.

The Evansville Otters scored their first three runs without registering a hit tonight as Nik Balog led off the second inning with a walk and was followed up by Shayne Houck who reached base after being hit by Green. A wild pitch from Green moved the runners into scoring position, Balog to third, Houck to second, and Chris Elder sent a sacrifice fly into left to score Houck.

There was a bit of confusion two batters later as Stephen Rogers was called for strike three, but Aviators catcher, Adrian Martinez, lost the ball as it bounced through his legs and went through the netting behind home plate. Rogers advanced to first and Houck, who was still on second advanced to third and still no call had been made so he rounded and headed for home and was initially called safe.

It was later ruled that Rogers had to remain at first and Houck had to return to third, but it wouldn't matter as Houck would later score on the second wild pitch of the inning to make the score 2-0.

The Otters scored again in the fourth inning after Houck and Elder reached on back to back walks before a wild pitch from Green advanced them into scoring position once again and a sac bunt from catcher David Cruz scored Houck for the second time.

The Otters scored their fourth and final run on an RBI double from J.R. Higley in the bottom of the fifth and that's where the score would remain as the Otters went on to win 4-0.

Jose Martinez' five game hit streak came to an end tonight as he finished the game 0-4. Kenny Bryant had a double in the top of the ninth as he tried to keep the Aviator's rally alive late, but was unable to score.

The Aviators are back in action tomorrow night against the Washington Wild Things (3-3) in game one of a three game series in Washington, Pennsylvania. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m. Central Standard Time. Fans can catch a broadcast of the game on the Meridix Network beginning at 5:50 p.m. Central Standard Time.
