Otters drop game in late innings

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks scored eight times in the final three innings to defeat the Evansville Otters 10-7.

Mid-Missouri took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a single by Dusty Hillman to score Elliot Ayala and Thomas Bowker.

The Otters got to Mavericks starter Nate Kuhns, who was a last minute replacement for Steve Soja who had to be scratched with a bad back, in the fourth. Jeff Goldbach got the rally started with one out by rocking his ninth homer of the season to make it 2-1. After a walk to Beau Blacken and a Trask Munoz double, Mike Spry singled to score both runners and give the Otters a 3-2 lead. Evansville scored a pair more in the inning to go up 5-2.

Goldbach hit his second homer of the game in the fifth to give the Otters a 6-2 lead. Trask Munoz scored on an error later in the inning to put the Otters up five.

The Mavericks started their comeback in the seventh with Wayne Astrauskas hitting his first homer of the season, a three-run shot to make it a 7-5 game.

Mid-Missouri then scored four runs in the eighth on a couple of defensive miscues by the Otters, who committed four errors in the game. Thomas Bowker hit a ninth inning homerun to make it 10-7.

Dustin Bolton (2-1) took the loss in relief. Adam Clay (1-0) picked up his first pro win with Cooper Eddy notching his sixth save.

The Otters now take to the road for six games against the River City Rascals and the Florence Freedom. Game time tomorrow from River City is 7:05 p.m.
