Rockford RiverHawks News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks can win in either nest this season.
The RiverHawks completed a season-series sweep of the Richmond Roosters with a 7-4 win in front of 2,317 at Marinelli Field. Rockford swept a three-game series at Richmond in mid-June and finished a sweep at home with Thursday's victory.
Tanner Watson (2-3) gave up four runs, half of them earned, and scattered six hits over six innings for the win. The Rockford bullpen combined for three innings of scoreless relief.
The RiverHawks rallied to break a 4-4 tie with a three-run sixth inning. Gooby Gerlits singled in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded infield hit. Nick Johnson followed with a sacrifice fly to drive Richmond starter Matt Schweitzer (6-7) from the game. Kevin Ciarrachi capped the inning with a RBI single.
Jason Glosser pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 13th save and third in as many nights. He struck out Rich Daly and Joe Rhomberg for the final two outs as the Roosters wasted a second-and-third, one-out opportunity. Richmond left 12 on base.
The RiverHawks hit the road for three games at Washington, beginning at 6:05 p.m. CDT Friday.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
