Oscar Leaves Bowling Green Grouchy, Cyclones Win 3-1

BROOKLYN, NY - Oscar Rojas sparkled over his 5.2 innings on the mound as the Cyclones defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods by the score of 3-1 on Friday Night at Maimonides Park. Five of Brooklyn's eight hits went for extra bases as the Cyclones evened the series at two games apiece.

Osleivis Basabe led off the game for the Hot Rods and slugged a double to left field on the second pitch of the game to give Bowling Green an instant threat. After advancing to third on a groundout, Basabe came home to score on an RBI single off the bat of Diego Infante to give the Hot Rods an early 1-0 lead.

The lead would be short-lived however because in the bottom of the frame the Cyclones would jump in front. Rowdey Jordan got things started with a one-out single and advanced to third when Wilmer Reyes blooped a perfectly-placed double down the right-field line. With a pair of runners in scoring position, Jose Peroza was able to work a walk to load the bases for Jose Mena. The Brooklyn designated hitter took advantage of the scoring chance with a flyball double that bounced just shy of the left-field wall to score a pair and give Brooklyn a 2-1 lead.

The teams traded zeroes until the fifth as Rojas and Mason Montgomery settled in, but in the bottom of the fifth the Cyclones added on a run. Tanner Murphy doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw before scoring on a wild pitch from Hot Rod reliever Graeme Stinson to make it 3-1 in favor of the Cyclones.

In the top of the seventh, Bowling Green had a golden opportunity to slice into the deficit against Brooklyn reliever Cam Opp - who made his 2022 Cyclones debut. The southpaw gave up a bunt single and a pair of walks to load the bases with nobody out, but Opp was able to strike out Matt Dyer before inducing a double-play ball from Osleivis Basabe to end the threat with Brooklyn still on top.

Cam Opp settled down after an eventful seventh inning, tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth to close out the win and collect his first save of the year.

The Cyclones will square off with the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Saturday afternoon with RHP Garrison Bryant on the mound. It's also Brett Baty Bobblehead Day for the first 2,000 fans in attendance. Gates open at 1:00 PM.
