Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades blasted three home runs and plated eight two-out runs in a 9-2 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium.
Austin Wells enjoyed a 2-for-3 night with a two-run homer, two walks, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Tyler Hardman went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a two-run homer. Eric Wagaman posted a 2-for-3 performance of his own, with double, two RBIs and a walk. Cooper Bowman tripled, walked twice, stole two bases and scored two runs in a 1-for-3 effort.
Hudson Valley grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first. Hardman and Wagaman knocked two-out RBI singles against Wilmington starter Tim Cate, scoring Bowman and Wells, respectively, who earlier executed a double steal to advance to second and third.
In the bottom of the third, the Renegades added two more. Wagaman struck again with an RBI double, and Aldenis Sanchez followed with an RBI triple to right to extend the lead to 4-0.
Cate (1-1) lasted 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and four runs, walking three and striking out five.
Hudson Valley starter Beck Way (1-0) cruised with the lead, tossing five innings, surrendering only one run on two hits, walking two and striking out five. The lone run came home on a Ricardo Mendez groundout in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Trey Sweeney teed off on a Lucas Knowles fastball to right field for his third home run of the season.
Knowles settled in, logging three innings, allowing three hits, one run, walking one and striking out four, but Garvin Alston replaced him in the bottom of the sixth and ran into more Hudson Valley two-out thunder.
After a Bowman triple, Wells launched his second home run, a towering two-run blast over the batter's eye in dead center. Later in the inning, Hardman mashed a no-doubt two-run homer of his own to left field.
Hudson Valley sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth, scoring four times to extend the lead to 9-1.
Nelvin Correa thrived in relief for the Renegades, striking out six batters in two shutout innings, allowing two hits and walking one.
Charlie Ruegger recorded the final six outs to shut the door in his 2022 Hudson Valley debut, allowing three hits, including a Mendez RBI double.
Hudson Valley continues its series with Wilmington on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Blas Castaño (0-2, 6.00) toes the rubber for the Renegades, while the Blue Rocks counter with RHP Seth Shuman (1-0, 2.84). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit www.hvrenegades.com.
